How to take a Social Media Break during the Christmas Holidays
Looking for the best ways to take a Social Media Break over Christmas? In this guide I have put together 6 of my Top Tips for how to switch off from Social Media over the Christmas Holidays as a Social Media Manager or a Small Business owner.
#1. Remove the feeling of Guilt
One of the main ways we can avoid burnout is to remove the feeling of Guilt when thinking about taking time off work. Setting healthy boundaries is one of the biggest acts of self-care and personal well-being there is. Often when we make time for self-care and taking regular breaks, we’re happier and even more productive. By taking the time to rest and recharge our ‘batteries’, it helps us to reignite our motivation and come back with a fresh new perspective.
#2. Plan and Schedule your Content in Advance
The ultimate way to giving yourself some peace of mind over the holidays is to plan and schedule your content in advance. After batch creating your content you can use scheduling platforms such as my two personal favourites, Later and Planoly, and by setting up auto-publishing of your posts during your time off, they will go out automatically without you even having to pick up your phone. I also like to use Facebook Business Suite to schedule stories and it’s the only tool available that allows your stories to be automatically published for you straight to Instagram.
Tip: Schedule an extra week of content so that when you’re back from your time off, you can transition into work mode smoothly without the added pressure of being active on social media.
#3. Prepare your Clients or Customers in Advance
Make sure to give your Clients or Customers enough notice of your holiday schedule so they’re well aware of when you will be out of office, so they know when they can be in touch after the holidays and when not to reach you. You can do this via Stories, a Post or also via E-mail*. Set clear expectations for when you’re away, such as when you'll be unavailable, and give plenty of notice.
Tip: Set yourself an automated Out of Office E-mail response so those contacting you can be made aware of when you’ll be back in office and when they’ll most likely receive a reply from you.
#4. Schedule your meetings for when you’re back at work
To ensure a smooth first week back at work after your vacation, schedule those all important catch up meetings with your clients so that nothing important is missed after your return.
#5. Unplug and Delete Social Media or Work Related Apps
This is probably the most difficult one, but trust me it works wonders for your mental health. Deleting those Social Media and Work Related apps during your time off stops that urge for unconsciously scrolling or e-mail checking, that often we tend to do without even realising. Once you’re back working these apps can be easily re-installed, and don’t worry, nothing will be lost.
#6. Disconnect & Enjoy your Time off!
The most important one of all, spend your time off doing all those little things you love. Whether it’s visiting some of your favourite places, spending time loved ones or even just taking a few days to relax and unwind in the comfort of our home. Remember to disconnect and enjoy your time off this Christmas season, you truly deserve it!
